In my mind i started this, last summer. Migrating my Linux machines to FreeBSD.
I have been running a "workstation" that i vnc/ssh into freebsd a couple of years, with some Linux virtualboxes.
My biggest concern was migrating my mailserver. And indeed, it was not as simple as i had hoped.
You would think, that if you use the same software, and same configurations, it should be copy/paste between a Gentoo server and a FreeBSD server.
It was not.
After ALOT of debugging, hair pulling and sobbing, you realize that postfix has not compiled in support for um Courier, but for Dovecot. Guess that is why you see mainly dovecot, blogs/guides for fbsd. A note about that when you install the package, would be Nice.
No, i didnt use ports to install/compile my server/servers. So went with, what seems like mostly used, opensmtpd and dovecot for mailserver... still, it aint trivial
Ironicly, once i got it working kindof ok (i may endup in spam at g00gl3 but who cares. I noticed a kickstartr on a book on how to setup a FreeBSD Mailserver ;) lets see what if/where i went wrong
Will be a couple of servers, "cloned", so i can with ease switch between if one fails. And upgrade one first, etc...
Went back, to regular html for blogging with some limited css.
Hugo/wordpress/etc/etc just adds complexity. If you blog once a year, you shouldnt have to remember how to blog between... should be simple.
Jails are nice! feels way ligher than KVMs.
Lets see if it becomes another year until next blog, or if i will write some about the things i worked on https://github.com/smurfd
